The cyclic discursive amplification model: emotional and cognitive ambivalence

The article tackles the problems of cyclic discourse amplification in the ‘disaster narrative’, which represents ‘Fear’ and ‘Hope’ as basic emotions, fluctuating in inverse proportion while the narrative is evolving. The article reveals the dynamics of ‘Fear-and-Hope’ representation in the media on Ebola outbreaks headlines in Russian media (2014-2020). The concepts from the headlines form a certain hierarchy of terms, disseminated into fields and verbal contexts. by means of special software. It helped the authors outline the scheme, which allows to monitor several binary concepts. This scheme reflects stochastic results of a multitude of non-cohesive actions represented in the media.
