Objective. To demonstrate the heuristic potential of the retrospective psychological profiling method (Bukhanovsky) when applied to a historical serial crime in the absence of direct physical evidence. The case of Jack the Ripper (1888) is used as an illustrative case study, with the biography of George Chapman (Severin Klosowski) serving as a candidate for comparison. This is a methodological exercise, not an attempt at legal or historical identification. Methodology. The study draws on three methodological foundations: A.O. Bukhanovsky's retrospective psychological profiling method, Yu.M. Antonyan's concept of the "pseudo-investigative" motive, and a clinical-psychological model of the avoidant-schizoid pattern. The profiling procedure comprised four stages: data collection and systematization, identification of stable patterns, reconstruction of motivational dominants, and construction of a socio-psychological profile. Results. The biographical analysis of George Chapman demonstrated his correspondence to the reconstructed profile across key parameters. Convergence was established between the obtained profile and the independent assessment by J. Douglas (1988, developed for a television documentary, not an official FBI report), which was produced within a different methodological tradition. Scientific novelty. For the first time in Russian scholarship, the application of the retrospective profiling method to a world-famous historical case is demonstrated, and a model linking the avoidant-schizoid personality pattern to the pseudo-investigative motive through the mechanism of victim objectification is proposed. Conclusions. This work is not an attempt at identification. Its purpose is to demonstrate how a clinically grounded model of motivation can be applied to historical material, what conclusions follow, and what limitations such an approach entails. The proposed model may serve as a didactic tool in profiler training and as a heuristic framework for analyzing non-sexual serial homicides.
