The Landauer Duality: ln(2) as the Universal Ceiling of Cognitive Cycle Efficiency
2026-10-07

Abstract We report the discovery that ln(2) ≈ 0.6931 serves not only as the Landauer floor (minimum energy cost of information erasure, 1961) but also as the universal ceiling of cognitive cycle efficiency. In a regenerative thermodynamic cycle, η = 1 − T_cold/T_hot = 1 − Θ(1−ln(2))/Θ = ln(2), invariant with respect to Θ. This closes a 65-year gap between Landauer's floor (kT·ln(2)) and the efficiency ceiling, establishing a duality: the same constant bounds both the minimum cost and the maximum efficiency of information processing. We present six independent confirmations across ontology, neuroscience, global R&D, photosynthesis, black hole thermodynamics, and artificial intelligence, and propose five falsifiable predictions.
