On the Equivocation of Analogy and Isomorphism: A Methodological Critique of the Perfectoid Diamond Model of Subjective Experience
2025-10-31

This paper presents a methodological critique of Dobson& Prentner's model, which posits an equivalence between the mathematical structure of perfectoid diamonds and the structure of subjective awareness. The critique argues that this purported isomorphism is fundamentally flawed, being based on a weak linguistic analogy rather than a rigorous formal derivation. The authors demonstrate that the proposed mapping fails to meet essential criteria for a valid model: it lacks necessity, uniqueness, and explanatory power. Crucially, they contend that even if the underlying mathematical conjectures were proven true, they would not logically entail any phenomenological truths about consciousness. The model is thus characterized as a non-falsifiable, tautological re-description that obscures the explanatory gap rather than bridging it.
